The Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) Pekanbaru Ring Road section, STA 178+750–182+250, traverses the administrative areas of Pekanbaru City and Kampar Regency, Riau Province. This area exhibits peat soil with low load-bearing ability and is prone to ground surface subsidence. These soil characteristics pose a major challenge for pile foundation design along the toll road corridor. Accurate peatland distribution information is required to support the determination of appropriate pile point locations. Conventional peat identification through field surveys requires considerable time and cost, and is inefficient given the extensive coverage of the toll road corridor. This final project aims to identify peatland to support pile foundation design planning along the toll road corridor.
This final project employed four-band Jilin-1 imagery with a spatial resolution of 0.5 m as the primary data for identifying peatland distribution. PlanetScope imagery was used as a gap-filling data source for cloud-covered pixels acquired on the same date. Both images were acquired on 16 June 2023. Processing stages included image masking, NDVI calculation, and integration of predictor features for the classification model. Peatland identification was performed using the Random Forest classification algorithm. The classification results were validated using borehole log data provided by PT Hutama Karya (Persero). The resulting peatland distribution map was subsequently overlaid with the planned pile points. The spacing between pile points was verified for compliance with SNI 8460:2017 requirements.
The Random Forest classification produced a peatland area of 542.07 ha, while the non-peatland area covered 114.48 ha. The NDVI predictor feature contributed the highest importance to the classification model, at 24.53%. Accuracy testing against 19 borehole validation points yielded an overall accuracy of 100%. Analysis of 10,560 pile points indicated that 9,999 points were located on peatland. This final project concludes that Jilin-1 imagery combined with Random Forest classification is capable of accurately identifying peatland. These identification results can support more efficient pile foundation design planning.
