A detonation wave is a reaction wave propagated at supersonic speed which potentially releases huge energy. If the energy which is released is uncontrolled, it will potentially generate an accident of detonation wave which could destroy a system or injure people. The phenomenon of failure detonation wave due to diffraction process passes through an orifice could be reinitiated again to be a detonation wave after an interaction between a shock wave and the surface of the tube wall or an interaction between two shock waves. A detonation wave passed through an orifice will be transformed to be a deflagration wave due to diffraction process behind an orifice. However, by the time, a shock wave of deflagration wave could be reinitiated to be a stable detonation wave because of an interaction between two shock waves or between a shock wave and a surface of the wall. The aim of this experiment is to understand the mechanisms of failure and reinitiation of detonation wave at downstream of the model. In this experiment, the detonation tube has 6 meters in length, which is divided into two sections, 1 meter for the driver section and 5 meters for the driven section (test section). Whereas, the model is made from a 10 mm-thick aluminum plate which is installed inside the driven tube and 5 meters from the ignition point. The plate has two holes with 7 mm diameter, and the distance between holes is 14 mm. Four pressure transducers are installed between the model, and four ionization probes are installed oppositely from the pressure transducers. A hydrogen-air mixture at an initial pressure of 100 kPa is used to initiate a detonation wave in the driver section, and a hydrogen-air mixture diluted by argon at an initial pressure of 20 kPa to 100 kPa with an interval of 10 kPa is used as fuel in the driven section. Three mechanisms of wave propagation at the downstream of the model are observed from this experiment, which are (1) detonation quenching, generally this case occurs at low initial pressure; thus, the number of detonation cells generated inside the double orifices is less than 2.6 ?. (2) Reinitiation detonation, this case occurs when the number of cell sizes inside the double orifices is between 2.6 ? to 4.3 ?. Reinitiation detonation wave occurs by the DDT mechanism or an interaction between a shock wave and the surface of the wall, which generates a hot spot around the surface of the wall. The hot spot could reinitiate a strong detonation wave, as indicated by very fine cell sizes around the surface of the wall. While the third propagation mechanism is (3) detonation transmission, where the number of detonation cells inside the orifice is more than 4.3 ?, then it could pass through the orifices without detonation quenching.
