This study aims to analyze the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) through Popper's demarcation framework, particularly the principle of falsifiability. MBTI is a personality assessment instrument developed based on Carl Gustav Jung's theory of psychological types and classifies individuals into sixteen personality types according to four major dichotomies. Although MBTI has been widely applied in various fields, the scientific validity of its underlying theoretical framework remains a subject of debate.
This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method within a descriptive-interpretative philosophical framework. The analysis is conducted through, interpretation, holistic, and descriptive approaches to examine MBTI based on the principle of falsifiability as a criterion of demarcation proposed by Karl Raimund Popper.
The research findings indicate that the theoretical claims of the MBTI are open to empirical testing. However, various empirical studies suggest that the assumptions concerning personality dichotomies, the hierarchy of psychological functions, and personality type development have not received adequate empirical support. Furthermore, several theoretical aspects of MBTI reveal issues related to consistency and a tendency to preserve fundamental assumptions despite encountering contradictory empirical findings.
