An aqueduct bridge is a structural component of an irrigation system that requires adequate stiffness and stability to ensure its performance throughout its service life. During the erection process, the steel truss structure experiences deformation due to applied loads, which may affect the final structural elevation. Therefore, the application of camber as an initial upward curvature is necessary to compensate for structural deflection, allowing the bridge to achieve its intended elevation after loading.

This study aims to evaluate the deflection of a steel truss aqueduct bridge with various span lengths, analyze the relationship between deflection and the required camber, and assess the suitability of the proposed camber with fabrication tolerance requirements. A three-dimensional numerical model was developed using SAP2000, considering loading conditions in accordance with the applicable design standards. Serviceability load combinations were used as the basis for determining the required camber, which was subsequently evaluated against the fabrication tolerances specified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

The results indicate that all span variations satisfy the allowable deflection limits under serviceability loading conditions. The calculated deflections were used to determine the required camber to compensate for vertical deformation caused by structural loads. Furthermore, the proposed camber values comply with the fabrication tolerances specified by AISC, indicating that they are suitable for implementation during fabrication and erection processes. Consequently, the proper application of camber can maintain the designed structural elevation, improve serviceability performance, and enhance the long-term reliability of steel truss aqueduct bridges throughout their service life.
