Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkritisi
eksistensi diri tokoh perempuan Druze dalam novel M???q an-Nis?` karya ??nin
??yig.
kualitatif guna menggambarkan eksistensi perempuan Druze
This study aims to critically examine the
self-existence of the Druze female protagonist in the novel M???q an-Nis?` by
??nin ??yig. The theoretical framework used is Simone de Beauvoir’s
existentialist feminism, while the method employed is qualitative description
to depict the existence of Druze women as reflected in the novel.
The results of the study show that Druze
female figures are represented as embodying two distinct aspects: immanence and
transcendence. In the realm of immanence, Druze female figures are depicted as
caught up in the mystification of the reproductive apparatus and subordination.
This mystification of the reproductive system is evident in two phases of life:
before and after marriage. In the pre-marriage-phase, women face the compulsion
of early marriage which has become a recurring pattern marriage within the
Druze community, and a ban on divorce. In the post marriage phase, women’s
bodies are reduced to mere instruments of reproduction, expected to bear
children particularly sons whilst the birth of daughters is regarded as a
burden. Meanwhile, women’s subordination is evident through restrictions on
their rights to make personal decisions and through their domestication.
In contrast to immanence, transcendence in
the novels illustrates the process by which Druze women assert their existence
through intellectual development and economic independence. In terms of
intellectual development, women are depicted pursuing formal education in
schools and universities, demonstrating a strong determination to learn, using
their intellectual and creative abilities as a form of self-development, and
asserting themselves as autonomous beings capable of determining their own life
choices. Meanwhile, the economic independence of Druze women is depicted
through their involvement in work in the public sphere. This work is undertaken
to achieve professionalism and as a form of social contribution. Furthermore,
it contributes to the characters’ psychological well-being and ultimately
builds their economic independence.
