PT Sandaran Hati Berlian (PT SHB) is a company operating in the Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) timber harvesting sector. The timber harvesting process involves a series of interconnected activities, including felling, branch collection and cleaning, bucking, skidding, transportation to the Log Yard (TPK), and truck loading. The complexity of these activities may generate waste, leading to increased lead time and reduced operational efficiency.

Based on field observations, non-value-added activities were identified, resulting in excessive waiting time between production processes and causing material flow to be less than optimal. This study aims to map the current condition of the timber harvesting process, identify value added (VA), necessary non value added (NNVA), and non value added (NVA) activities, and propose improvement recommendations using the Lean Production approach.

This study employs Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to map the production process flow, Value Stream Analysis Tools (VALSAT) to determine the most appropriate analysis tool, and Process Activity Mapping (PAM) to identify waste activities in detail. The results show that the timber harvesting process consists of 765 minutes of value-added activities and a total lead time of 1,191 minutes, indicating the presence of 426 minutes of NNVA and NVA activities. Furthermore, based on the VALSAT matrix calculation, PAM obtained the highest score of 113.91 and was therefore selected as the primary analysis tool. The findings reveal that the major non-value-added activities originate from waiting, transportation, and inspection activities. Based on the proposed improvements, the lead time of the timber harvesting process is projected to decrease from 1,191 minutes to 976 minutes, representing a reduction of 18.05%.
