The use of alternative fuels in diesel engines has been continuously developed to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while promoting the utilization of plastic waste. One promising alternative is pyrolysis oil derived from plastic waste, which can be blended with B40 biodiesel. This study aims to analyze the effect of B40 biodiesel blended with pyrolysis oil on the performance and exhaust emissions of a single-cylinder diesel engine.

The experiments were conducted using a single-cylinder diesel engine coupled with an alternator as the loading system. Four fuel variations were tested: 100?0biodiesel (B40 100), 75?0biodiesel + 25% pyrolysis oil (B40 75P25), 50?0biodiesel + 50% pyrolysis oil (B40 50P50), and 25?0biodiesel + 75% pyrolysis oil (B40 25P75). Engine performance tests were carried out at engine speeds ranging from 1300 to 1700 rpm. The performance parameters evaluated included Brake Power (BP), Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC), and Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE). The exhaust emission parameters analyzed were carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC), and opacity.

The results showed that Brake Power increased with increasing engine speed. In terms of exhaust emissions, the addition of pyrolysis oil affected each emission parameter differently. The opacity value decreased from 65.74% for pure B40 biodiesel to 55.28% for the B40 50P50 blend. The CO and HC emissions varied depending on the fuel composition, while NOx emissions tended to decrease as the proportion of pyrolysis oil increased. Among all fuel blends tested, B40 50P50 produced the lowest opacity value, indicating a tendency toward cleaner combustion compared with the other fuel blends based on the opacity parameter.

Kata Kunci : B40 biodiesel, pyrolysis oil, single-cylinder diesel engine, engine performance, exhaust emissions, opacity
