Water availability is a crucial factor for rice growth and production. Osmotolerant rhizobacteria has been documented to alleviate water shortage problem in plant growth. In this study, osmotolerant rhizobacteria (Bacillus altitudinis TR-19) has been employed to increase rice growth and production under different soil moisture conditions. This study was aimed at determining the contribution of osmotolerant rhizobacteria when used twice as inoculant at different rice growth phases in increasing plant growth and production, i.e. at the early growth and maximum vegetative phases of rice cultivated under different soil moisture conditions. Rice was cultivated in Alfisol using pots under varying soil field capacity (100%; 90%; 80%; 70%; 60%, and 50%). The results of the study demonstrated that the use of osmotolerant rhizobacteria (Bacillus altitudinis TR-19) inoculated twice at different growth phases, increased rice plant growth under different soil moisture conditions, particularly in terms of root length and dry root weight, and increased the dry weight of the canopy, but has not yet led to a significant increase in yield.
