The accuracy of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning is highly influenced by the distance between the reference station and the field receiver. In the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the addition of six new stations in 2026 has densified the Ina-CORS network, resulting in an average inter-station distance of 8.43 km. This increased density optimizes the nearest mountpoint, which automatically connects the receiver to the closest station. For comparison, the JOG200IDN (IGS) station operates as a single-base reference. When relying solely on JOG200IDN, positioning accuracy tends to decrease as the baseline distance increases. However, JOG200IDN has a technical advantage by utilizing a more advanced correction data format (RTCM 3.3) compared to Ina-CORS (RTCM 3). This difference highlights the need to compare the performance of the advanced correction data format of JOG200IDN with the dense infrastructure of the Ina-CORS network. This study aims to compare the accuracy and performance of RTK positioning between the single-base JOG200IDN service and the nearest Ina-CORS service in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The research was conducted at 12 observation points with baseline distances ranging from 2 to 25 km from JOG200IDN. The sample points were divided into two routes, coded as KRT1–KRT6 (Kretek route) and IMO1–IMO6 (Imogiri route). Definitive reference coordinates (true values) for each point were obtained through static observations (approximately 40 minutes) processed by network adjustment using four CORS stations (JOG200IDN, JOGS, CBTL, and CPTS) with Leica Infinity. RTK data were recorded for 120 epochs for each service at each location. Data quality was comparatively evaluated using precision (standard deviation) and accuracy (RMSE) metrics. The RTK performance assessment was limited to the parameters of satellite constellation count and data latency (age of differential). All results were quantitatively validated using Pearson correlation, paired t-test, and F-test.
Statistical analysis showed no significant differences in accuracy and precision between the two services. This indicates that the superior specifications of JOG200IDN are able to compensate for the denser infrastructure of Ina-CORS, resulting in comparable accuracy. In terms of performance, Ina-CORS demonstrated significantly lower transmission latency (average 1.87 seconds vs. 10.14 seconds; p = 0), which was the main reason Ina-CORS maintained 100% fixed solutions at all points, while JOG200IDN failed at the two farthest points (>20 km). Pearson correlation confirmed that increasing baseline distance from JOG200IDN strongly correlates with greater 2D standard deviation (r = 0.75), although its effect on 3D accuracy is not linear since vertical errors are more influenced by environmental conditions. Practically, these results provide a basis for survey practitioners to optimize the selection of RTK services according to project requirements and the availability of CORS stations in the field.
