Built-up Area Consumption per Capita (BPC) serves as an indicator of the intensity of built-up land utilization in accommodating the population within a given area. This study aims to analyze the spatial patterns of KLT, the direct and spillover effects of socioeconomic determinants, and the spatial heterogeneity of their impacts across different typologies of urban agglomerations. The analysis is conducted on 52 districts and cities across nine urban agglomeration areas on Java Island over the 2016–2023 period. This research employs Global Moran's I and Moran’s Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA) to identify spatial patterns, followed by the application of a Dynamic Spatial Durbin Model (DSDM). The DSDM is estimated globally and further disaggregated based on the urban agglomeration typologies outlined in the Kebijakan Perkotaan Nasional 2045 (KPN). The empirical results reveal that KLT forms significant spatial clusters, with compact intensity concentrated in the western corridor of Java and sparse intensity dominating the central corridor. The global DSDM provides evidence of centripetal-centrifugal mechanisms in alignment with the New Economic Geography theory, particularly concerning minimum wages and economic productivity. Furthermore, population density emerges as the most consistent determinant associated with KLT. Estimations based on urban typologies confirm the presence of spatial heterogeneity, where population density is the sole determinant that exhibits consistency across all three typologies. Conversely, other determinants—such as physical investment, property tax ratios, and education levels—demonstrate divergent patterns in both their direction and channels of influence among the WM, CM, and PM typologies. These findings underscore the necessity for spatially differentiated land control policies tailored to regional typologies, aligning with the strategic directives of the 2045 KPN.
