Green open spaces at Soerojo Hospital play a vital role in creating a healthy, comfortable environment that supports patient recovery. This role is largely determined by tree vegetation as its primary component, which not only optimizes the ecological and aesthetic functions of the area but also contributes to improving the overall quality of the hospital environment. Thus, selecting the right tree species is a crucial aspect of managing green open spaces to ensure these functions are optimally achieved. This study aims to identify the composition of tree species and architectural forms, evaluate the suitability of tree functions, and formulate optimal recommendations based on the evaluation of tree function suitability in the front green open space of Soerojo Hospital.
The study was conducted in the front area of Soerojo Hospital from January to May 2026. The data collection procedure involved exploration, inventory, analysis, evaluation, and the formulation of recommendations. To facilitate the study, the research site was divided into 7 zones based on building functions. Data analysis was performed descriptively using a scoring method to evaluate the level of tree functional suitability in each research zone.
The study results show that the open green space in front of Soerojo Hospital contains 55 tree species classified into 27 families and 11 tree architecture models, namely Attim, Aubreville, Champagnat, Corner, Koriba, Leeuwenberg, Massart, Rauh, Roux, Scarrone, and Troll. The evaluation results indicate that most of the trees are suitable for their respective zones, while some trees are recommended for replacement due to unsuitable species, poor tree quality, or the potential to compromise the safety and comfort of area users.
