This study evaluates an XGBoost binary classifier to predict the next-day stock price direction for 16 LQ45 stocks on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2015 to 2025. Two specifications are compared: a base model using 16 technical indicators and an extended model augmented with macroeconomic proxy variables. Using a leakage-free pipeline with GridSearchCV and TimeSeriesSplit cross-validation, the base model achieves a mean accuracy of 53.0%, MCC of 0.046, and ROC-AUC of 0.530. The extended model improves MCC for 11 of 16 stocks, raising mean accuracy to 53.3% and ROC-AUC to 0.532, though McNemar's test finds no statistically significant difference in classification errors for any stock. SHAP analysis identifies Average True Range, Accumulation Distribution Index Change, and Stochastic K% as the dominant predictors in the base model, while the Jakarta Composite Index return emerges as the top 5 contributor in the extended model. Findings are consistent with the Adaptive Markets Hypothesis, suggesting directional predictability in the Indonesian equity market is partial and stock specific.
