Climate change has become a crucial topic for world leaders seeking to save the Earth. To address this, electric cars with nickel-based battery components are a solution. Nickel mining activities in the Indonesian Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) operate to locate, extract, and mine nickel for the supply of electric car batteries. This issue raises ethical questions about the extent to which nickel mining companies should be allowed to support the current electric car industry.
The method used in this research is qualitative, with a philosophical approach related to current issues in human life. The data used in this study comes from literature reviews, including articles, journals, and supporting books. The formal object of this study uses Aldo Leopold's Land Ethic theory as a tool to analyze actual human problems, namely nickel mining activities in Morowali. The research stages begin with preparation, data inventory, classification, and finally, writing up the results. The methodical elements in this research are description, interpretation, heuristics, and critical reflection.
The results of this research indicate that nickel mining activities in the Indonesian Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) area, Morowali Regency, have damaged land health through soil degradation, the influx of pollutants and hazardous substances into water and air, and other environmental problems. Therefore, efforts are needed to restore the capacity to save the environmental and social conditions of the affected areas. Land restoration efforts are not only an administrative obligation, but also a moral responsibility of human beings to all members of the land community to preserve sustainability.
