The implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology has developed as one of the climate change mitigation solutions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from industrial activities. This technology has the potential to support the transition toward low carbon energy, but it also raises ecological concerns regarding its long-term environmental impacts. This study aims to analyze the implications of implementing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for environmental sustainability and to assess its compatibility based on Aldo Leopold’s land ethics perspective.

This study uses a qualitative method through a descriptive approach, literature study, and philosophical analysis. The data were obtained from books, scientific journals, and other relevant sources related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Aldo Leopold’s land ethics theory. The analysis was conducted using the principles of land ethics, which emphasize the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community as the basis for ethical evaluation.

The results show that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions but also has potential long-term ecological impacts. From Aldo Leopold’s land ethics perspective, the implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) still reflects an anthropocentric tendency because it focuses on solving environmental problems primarily through human interests. Therefore, the implementation of this technology requires consideration of the ethical relationship between humans and nature as part of the biotic community.
