The West Parking Building in the Health Cluster at Gadjah Mada University is a five-story public building designed to serve as both a parking garage and a sports facility, featuring a dual-structure system consisting of a Special Moment-Resisting Frame System (SMRF) and reinforced concrete shear walls. Given the building’s functions, floor vibration comfort is one of the performance criteria that must be considered in addition to strength and seismic resistance requirements. An evaluation of the initial design showed that the structure has a vertical natural frequency of 6,32 Hz, meaning it is still susceptible to resonance caused by human foot traffic. Therefore, this study aims to redesign the upper structure by modifying the dimensions and reinforcement of structural elements to increase the vertical natural frequency of the floors while still meeting the strength, detailing, and seismic resistance requirements in accordance with applicable standards.

The design complies with SNI 1726:2019, SNI 1727:2020, and SNI 2847:2019. The evaluation of vibration comfort complies with ISO 2631, while the analysis of footfall-induced vibration complies with AISC Design Guide 11. The analysis was performed using SAP2000 through three-dimensional modeling. The redesign began with reducing the floor slab thickness from 15 cm to 13 cm to reduce the structural mass, which caused the vertical natural frequency to decrease to 5,91 Hz. Next, the beam dimensions were modified and additional beam elements were added in critical areas to increase the stiffness of the floor system. The effect of compatibility torsion redistribution on the floor slab reinforcement design was also evaluated.

The redesign results show that the vertical natural frequency increased to 7,19 Hz, thereby meeting the frequency target set in the study as an evaluation parameter for floor vibration serviceability. All structural elements meet the strength requirements based on SNI 2847:2019, while the evaluation based on SNI 1726:2019 shows that the structure meets the requirements for period, mass participation, inter-story drift, structural irregularity, the Strong Column Weak Beam (SCWB) concept, and the Dual System. The maximum inelastic inter-story deflection of 41,64 mm remains below the allowable limit of 52,31 mm.
