Sintesis
melalui proses glycerol steam reforming (GSR).
The synthesis and catalytic test of
Ni-Mg-Al hydrotalcite (HT) catalysts with its application in hydrogen (H2)
production from glycerol, a byproduct of biodiesel, were conducted via the
glycerol steam reforming (GSR) process. The objective of this research was to
synthesize and characterize Ni-Mg-Al HT catalysts by varied molar ratios of Ni,
Mg, and Al, and calcination temperatures. This research also evaluated the
effects of metal ratios and calcination temperatures on catalyst performance in
H? production in the GSR process.
The Ni-Mg-Al HT catalysts were
synthesized using the coprecipitation method with variations in metal ratios
then calcined at 600 and 1000 °C. The catalysts were characterized using
ICP-OES, ATR-FTIR, XRD, SEM, N? adsorption-desorption (BET-BJH), and STA.
Catalyst activity testing via the GSR process was conducted using a fixed-bed
reactor to produce gaseous products. The gas composition was analyzed using
GC-TCD.
The increase in the Ni and Mg ratio and higher calcination temperature in the Ni-Mg-Al HT catalyst provided optimal conditions, resulting in a catalyst with a spinel, high surface area (28.35 m² g?¹), homogeneous metal dispersion, and the highest thermal stability (-7.54%). The catalyst activity under these optimal conditions in the GSR process demonstrated the best performance and stability, with H2 yield of 33.60%. The results show that sample C-02 with metal ratios of Ni:Mg:Al was 0.1:0.1:0.1 respectively and calcined at 1000 °C is the best catalyst for H2 production via the GSR process.
