Pyometra is secondary bacterial infection of the uterus in intact female cats that consitutes a medical emergency and may lead to sepsis and death if left untreated. The disease develops as a result of chronic progesterone exposure following the estrus phase, which trigger Cystic Endometrial Hyperplasia (CEH) and subsequently creates an ideal environment for the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria such as Eschericia coli. This study aimed to analyze the influence of breed group variation (Domestic, Purebred, and Mixed) and age group (<1>6 years) on the prevalence of pyometra in female cats in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), employing Crosstabs analysis, homogeneity test, One-Way ANOVA, and Post Hoc Tukey as the analytical methods. Out of 116 total samples, 30 positive cases of pyometra were identified (25.9%), with the highest distribution observed in the 1-6 year age group (19 cats) and the >6 year age group (7 cats), as well as in domestic (13 cats), purebred (9 cats), and mixed-breed (8 cats) categories. One-Way ANOVA results indicated that neither age or breed category had a significant effect on the incidence of pyometra, with cases found to be fluctuatively distributed across all groups. These findings suggest that the pathogenesis of pyometra in cats is universal and is not restricted to any particular breed or age, imlying that owner-managed animal husbandry practices may represent a more dominant predisposing factor in field conditions.
