STUDI KOMPARASI MORFOLOGIS DAN HISTOLOGIS OVARIUM AYAM LOKAL KUB DAN AYAM LAYER LOHMANN [Gallus gallus gallus (Linnaeus, 1758)] PADA USIA 2 MINGGU DAN 1 BULAN

Indonesia memiliki keanekaragaman jenis ayam lokal yang tinggi, baik ayam endemik maupun hasil persilangan, salah satunya adalah ayam KUB (Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan) yang merupakan hasil seleksi genetik dari ayam Kampung. Potensi ayam KUB sangat besar karena karena memiliki keunggulan mudah dibudidayakan. Namun, jika dibandingkan dengan ayam Layer, produktivitas bertelurnya masih tergolong rendah. Perbedaan perkembangan dan pertumbuhan struktur ovarium pada ayam KUB menjadi salah satu faktornya. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil morfologi dan histologi ovarium ayam KUB yang dikomparasikan dengan ayam Lohmann pada usia 2 minggu & 1 bulan. Total 12 ovarium ayam KUB dan Lohmann pada usia 2 minggu dan 1 bulan (n=3 per kelompok usia) diamati. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan mengukur morfologi ayam, morfologi organ serta mengidentifikasi histologi ovarium menggunakan pewarnaan Hematoksilin-Eosin (HE). Hasil pengamatan makroanatomi ovarium menunjukkan kedua jenis ayam memiliki morfologi dan morfometri yang tidak berbeda nyata. Secara histologis, ovarium kedua jenis ayam dapat diamati jenis folikel yang berkembang berupa folikel primordial dan folikel primer. Pada pengukuran kuantitatif diketahui perbedaan diameter folikel terbesar serta persentase folikel pada ayam Lohmann dan ayam KUB di usia 2 minggu dan 1 bulan yang tidak berbeda signifikan. 

KUB (Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan) chicken are among the many diverse local and crossbred chicken varieties found in Indonesia. KUB chickens are the result of genetic selection from native village chickens and have significant potential due to their ease of cultivation and adaptability. However, compared to commercial layer chickens, their egg production remains relatively low. One contributing factor is the difference in ovarian growth and developmental structure. This study aimed to determine the morphological and histological profiles of KUB chicken ovaries in comparison with Lohmann chickens at 2 weeks and 1 month of age. A total of 12 ovaries from KUB and Lohmann chickens at 2 weeks and 1 month of age (n=3 per age group) were examined. Observations included measurements of chicken morphology, organ morphology, and identification of ovarian histology using Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining. The results of ovarian morphological observations showed that both chicken types had similar morphologic and morphometric sizes. Histologically, the ovarian structures of both chicken types could be observed through follicular development, which was dominated by primordial follicles with a small number of primary follicles. Quantitative measurements revealed that Lohmann and KUB chickens ovaries at both 2 weeks and 1 month of age were not statistically significant.
