Limbah sekam
Rice husk waste in Indonesia, reaching 11–16 million tons per year, is
predominantly disposed of through open burning practices that are harmful to
the environment. This waste has significant potential to be converted into
high-value products through pyrolysis. This study aimed to optimize the
pyrolysis process of rice husk (Oryza sativa L.) in terms
of the quantity and quality of biochar and liquid smoke produced. The study
employed a simple pyrolysis apparatus based on a Fixed Bed Reactor with a
factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experiment analyzed through
Two-Way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. Results indicated that both factors and
their interaction had a highly significant effect on biochar yield (R² = 0.931)
and liquid smoke yield (R² = 0.974). The optimal combination was achieved at a
feedstock mass ratio of 67% with a mass of 20,000 grams and a pyrolysis
duration of 120 minutes, producing the highest liquid smoke yield of 381.7 mL
and a biochar yield of 10,446.67 grams. This research is expected to serve as a
semi-pilot scale operational reference for farmers and small industries in
producing biochar as a soil amendment and liquid smoke as a natural
biopesticide from rice husk waste.
