This study aims to develop and compare the characteristics of PLA and PVA-based multilayer bioplastic films fabricated using two different methods, namely the drop casting method and the hot press method. The characterization carried out included analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to analyze the morphology and functional groups of the film, UV-Vis spectroscopy to test the transmittance of the film, and contact angle measurements (water contact angle) to test the hydrophobicity and stability of the film against water. The results of the analysis showed that the hot press method was a more optimal method for the fabrication. SEM and FTIR analysis showed that both PLA and PVA polymer chains successfully bonded and produced a more homogeneous morphology when subjected to a pressure of 12 MPa and a pressing temperature of 120°C. UV-Vis characterization showed that the hot press method produced a film with better UV shielding capabilities compared to the results of the drop casting method. The level of hydrophobicity and stability of the film towards water also increased, with an initial contact angle of 66,4° ± 0,6° for samples without chitosan and 63,6° ± 0,2° for samples with chitosan.
