A study on the adsorption of the anionic dye Remazol Yellow FG by EPTAC-modified chitosan films as a adsorbent has been conducted. The objectives of this study were to characterize the adsorbent, specifically a chitosan films modified with EPTAC, and to determine the optimal conditions for the adsorption of Remazol Yellow FG dye by the EPTAC-modified chitosan films. This study also aimed to determine the kinetic model and adsorption isotherm of Remazol Yellow FG dye by the EPTAC-modified chitosan films.

The chitosan films was prepared by reacting chitosan with CHPTAC ((3-Chloro-2-Hydroxypropyl) Trimethylammonium Chloride) and a sodium hydroxide solution, the resulting product was then mixed with solutions of acetic acid, glutaraldehyde, and glycerol. The EPTAC-modified chitosan film was characterized using ATR-FTIR and SEM-EDX. The adsorption study was conducted by varying the treatment parameters of solution pH, adsorbent mass, contact time, and adsorbate concentration until optimal conditions were obtained.

The results of the study indicate that the synthesis of EPTAC-modified chitosan films was successful, as evidenced by ATR-FTIR and SEM-EDX results and supported by the results of the adsorbent activity test. The adsorption of Remazol Yellow FG by the EPTAC-modified chitosan films was carried out under optimal conditions at pH 2, with an adsorbent mass of 50 mg, a contact time of 60 minutes, and an adsorbate concentration of 300 mg L?1. The kinetic model for the adsorption of Remazol Yellow FG by the EPTAC-modified chitosan films follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model with a reaction rate constant of 9.35 × 10?4 g mg?1 menit?1and follows the Langmuir isotherm, occurring as a monolayer with an adsorption capacity of 75.2 mg g?1.
