Estrus synchronization is an important strategy for enhancing the reproductive efficiency of local sheep, particularly to aid in the detection of estrus and artificial insemination that can impact livestock productivity. This study aims to determine the estrus response in sheep synchronized using Controlled Internal Drug Release (CIDR) and the addition of Zinc (Zn) supplements. Twenty-five healthy local ewes with a body condition score of 3 were used in this research. The treatment involved the insertion of an intravaginal CIDR containing 0.3 g of Progesterone for 14 days, along with the administration of 20 mg of zinc per ewe orally every other day during the treatment period. Observed parameters included estrus response, visual vulva score (swelling, redness, and mucus), onset of estrus, and duration of estrus. The results showed that the estrus response reached 100%, with 73.33% of the ewes showing a visual estrus score of 3 and 26.67% showing a score of 2. Ewes exhibited estrus characterized by swelling, redness, and mucus discharge from the vulva. The average onset of estrus was recorded at 29.93±0.43 hours after CIDR removal, while the duration of estrus reached 36.03±0.44 hours. These results indicate that the combination of CIDR and zinc supplementation can induce synchronized estrus with good quality and accelerate the onset of estrus. Thus, the use of CIDR combined with zinc has the potential to improve the effectiveness of reproductive programs, support the implementation of scheduled artificial insemination, and enhance the productivity and efficiency of local sheep farming.
