The canary is a songbird known for its melodious vocalizations and striking plumage, whose management and husbandry must be properly maintained to minimize stress. Physiological stress and oxidative stress are important biological parameters involved in regulating the production of corticosterone and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Corticosterone is a hormone produced in response to stress, with its release mediated through activation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. Meanwhile, SOD is an endogenous antioxidant enzyme that plays a role in neutralizing excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during oxidative stress, which occurs when antioxidant defenses are insufficient. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between corticosterone concentration and SOD activity in canaries (Serinus canaria) supplemented with blood cockle shell powder under an ex situ management system. The samples consisted of fecal material collected from four individual canaries, which were extracted and subsequently analyzed to determine corticosterone levels and SOD activity using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. The study employed an experimental design with two variables: a treatment group receiving blood cockle shell powder supplementation and a control group without supplementation. Spearman correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between corticosterone concentration and SOD activity, with a correlation coefficient of ?0.134. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there is a negative correlation between the two observed parameters, namely corticosterone levels and SOD activity. This negative correlation indicates that an increase in corticosterone concentration as a physiological stress response tends to be followed by a decrease in SOD enzyme activity in canaries receiving blood cockle shell powder supplementation under ex situ conditions.
