Oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities in Indonesia have been done since the Dutch colonial period. During that time, the coordinate measurement system for drilled wells still relied on geodetic technologies and reference frames that differ from those used today. Problems arise when the coordinates of older drilled wells are still based on an outdated reference frame, making them inconsistent with the current reference system. This condition can lead to errors in data recording, sediment cross-section measurements, and coordinate data maintenance, and can also affect hydrocarbon reserve estimations. Therefore, this study aims to transform drilled well coordinates referenced to the latest reference frame, namely ITRF 2020, using the Bursa–Wolf method, and to analyze the influence of the number and distribution of control points on the accuracy of the transformation results. This study uses secondary data in the form of geodetic coordinates of drilled well points at two different epochs. Least squares adjustment is applied in coordinate transformation to obtain the seven transformation parameters using the Bursa–Wolf method. The study is divided into four categories, each with a varying number of control points. Each category consists of control points and checkpoints based on their distribution and configuration. Statistical analysis is conducted to ensure that the coordinate observation data does not contain gross errors, including global tests, data snooping, and parameter significance tests. The validation results are calculated from the checkpoints. The study shows that category 1, comprising 9 control points, produces the smallest RMSE of 6 cm. However, this RMSE value is still considered relatively big for high-precision GNSS measurements. This result is due to the epoch II coordinates not obtained from independent observations but rather from simulated data, which has several limitations, such as the assumption of identical vertical components and ignoring of temporal effects in determining the height at epoch I. The transformation parameters obtained translations of ?3.605 m in the X component, ?0.338 m in the Y component, and 14.33 m in the Z component. The rotation values are close to zero, and the scale factor is close to one. The global test results for all categories meet the required criteria, indicating that no gross errors are present in the observation data. Furthermore, the number and spatial distribution of control points significantly influence the accuracy of coordinate transformation. Using a sufficient number of well-distributed control points can improve the accuracy of the transformation results.
