Periodontal disease is an oral health problem that is widely experienced by the global population, one of which is periodontitis. Periodontitis is a pathological condition that affects the tooth-supporting tissues, resulting from infection by periodontal pathogenic bacteria.  However, in immunocompromised patients it can involve  opportunistic bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a scaffold that not only supports tissue regeneration but also has antibacterial activity.  The combination of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA) can be used as a scaffold due to its good osteoconductive and mechanical properties. The addition of egg white powder (EW), which contains antibacterial proteins such as lysozyme and ovotransferrin has the potential to increase the antibacterial activity of the material. Scaffold fabrication can be performed using the freeze drying (lyophilization) method to produce a porous structure that supports osteoblast infiltration and facilitates cell and nutrient transport. This study aimed to analyze the effect of varying concentrations of egg white powder in a lyophilized PVA-CHA composite membrane on the antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

This study used five groups, consisting of three experimental groups with varying concentrations of egg white powder (3%, 5%, and 7%), a negative control group, and a positive control group. All groups were tested in a single petri dish per replicate, with a total of five replicates. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference (p<0>

The conclusion of this study is that there is no effect of varying concentrations of egg white powder in PVA-CHA composite membrane on the actibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
