This study aims to analyse the representation of Zinédine Zidane's identity as an immigrant in Dan Franck's biographical novel Zidane: Le Roman d'une Victoire. Specifically, it examines the construction of the protagonist's hybrid identity within the sociopolitical tensions of contemporary France and interrogates the novel's function as social criticism of nationalist discourse and republican integration policy. The study employs a postcolonial literary approach, applying Gérard Genette's structural narratology and Philippe Lejeune's Le Pacte autobiographique as its primary theoretical frameworks. Data were analysed qualitatively through close reading of the novel's narrative structure and characterization. Three principal findings emerge. First, Zidane's identity is constructed as a fluid process of negotiation between his Algerian heritage and the pressures of French assimilation; the memory of his father, Smaïl, together with Arab-Berber values, remains an indelible identity anchor against the Beur stigma. Second, the obstacles he confronts operate along a dual axis: ethnic marginalisation compounded by class-based exclusion as a banlieue resident of La Castellane. His declaration j'ai dû travailler deux fois plus represents a structural constraint whereby a poor immigrant's son must accumulate exceptional physical capital to obtain recognition equivalent to that of his dominant-group peers. Third, French public acceptance of Zidane proves conditional and instrumentalised; the Black-BlancBeur rhetoric that emerged after 1998 harbours a latent xenophobia capable of resurfacing at any moment of failure. This study concludes that Dan Franck deconstructs the exclusive boundaries of Frenchness through Zidane's story, demonstrating that national strength derives from the interaction of plural identities rather than enforced cultural homogeneity.
