Pengalaman Nomadik dan Identitas dalam Identité nomade (2024) Karya J.-M.G. Le Clézio

Identitas merupakan pertanyaan fundamental dalam pemaknaan diri, namun negara cenderung mengaturnya melalui kode identifikasi untuk tujuan kontrol warga negara. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap makna identitas yang lahir dari pengalaman nomadik dalam novel autobiografi Identité nomade (2024) karya J.-M.G. Le Clézio. Data dalam penelitian ini diklasifikasikan menjadi dua kategori, yaitu mengenai konstruksi Le Clézio sebagai persona nomadik dalam cerita dan kritik terhadap batas dalam wujud identitas. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif. Penelitian ini membedah narasi novel melalui lensa karakteristik subjek nomaden Hélène Claudot-Hawad terkait pengalaman nomadik serta konsep rhizome dari Gilles Deleuze dan Félix Guattari tentang identitas yang mencerminkan koneksi subjek nomaden dengan dunia global. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman nomadik menghasilkan pemaknaan identitas yang cair dan terbebas dari batasan teritorial negara bangsa. Identitas tersebut termanifestasi dalam bentuk subjek nomaden yang memiliki sikap global, sikap antikolonial, dan resistensi terhadap hegemoni identitas tunggal dan tetap.

Identity is a fundamental question in the construction of self, yet states tend to regulate it through identification codes for the purpose of controlling their citizens. This study aims to uncover the meaning of identity that emerges from nomadic experiences in the autobiographical novel Identité nomade (2024) by J.-M.G. Le Clézio. The data in this study were classified into two categories namely regarding the portrayal of Le Clézio as a nomadic figure in the story and the critique of the boundaries of identity. These data subsequently analysed using a qualitative-descriptive approach. This study examines the novel’s narrative through the lens of the characteristic of nomadic subject by Hélène Claudot-Hawad specifically for analyzing the nomadic lived experience, as well as Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari’s concept of ‘rhizome’ regarding identity that represented connection of nomadic subject to the global world. The results of the study indicate that nomadic experiences produce a fluid sense of identity, free from the territorial constraints of the nation-state. This identity manifests itself in the form of a nomadic subject who possesses a global outlook, an anti-colonial stance, and resistance to the hegemony of a singular and settled identity.
