Tindakan wacana direktif digunakan untuk mendorong aksi kolektif melalui frasa seperti "RESIST" dan "FIGHT BACK," sementara tindakan wacana asertif digunakan untuk menyampaikan kritik politik melalui pernyataan seperti "EVERYTHING IS CORRUPTED" dan "DEMOCRACY HAS BEEN DELETED."

The 2025 parliamentary protests in Indonesia sparked a notable circulation of English protest posters on X, as part of digital activism and online resistance efforts. These posters not only serve as political statements but also as multimodal texts that merge verbal and visual components to convey protest messages. This study investigates the primary speech acts featured on the posters and explores how multimodal techniques help in the construction of resistance discourse. The study takes a qualitative descriptive approach and blends John Searle's Speech Act Theory with Kress and van Leeuwen's Multimodal Discourse Analysis. The samples include twenty-four English-language protest posters collected from X during the 2025 Indonesian parliamentary protests. It was found that directive and assertive speech acts were the most prevalent categories in the collection. Directive speech acts are used to call for collective action through words like "RESIST" and "FIGHT BACK," whereas assertive speech acts provide a framework for political critique through lines such as "EVERYTHING IS CORRUPTED" and "DEMOCRACY HAS BEEN DELETED." The multimodal analysis also points out that visual factors like bold typography, contrasting colors, compositional salience, and the use of technology-related metaphors contribute to heightening the sense of urgency and the overall persuasiveness of the protest texts. This research supports the idea that English protest posters play a pivotal role as multimodal tools of resistance in Indonesia's digital protest culture. They effectively blend language-based persuasion with visual elements to express political criticism and motivate joint action.
