sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mengidentifikasi kapasitas advokasi
guru sekolah dasar dalam upaya
peningkatan kesehatan gigi dan mulut di sekolah.
Methods: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif
Pengumpulan
data dilakukan melalui Focus Group
Discussion (FGD),
wawancara dan workshop partisipatif yang mencakup
identifikasi masalah, problem tree analysis, analisis stakeholder,
dan penyusunan rekomendasi program kesehatan sekolah.
Results: Melalui proses PAR,
mengelola kesehatan siswa. Kesadaran tersebut diwujudkan melalui berbagai
usulan pengembangan program kesehatan berbasis sekolah sebagai langkah menuju
kemandirian sekolah dalam pengelolaan kesehatan siswa.
Conclusion: PAR membantu guru
berbagai stakeholder.
Background:
Oral diseases remain a significant health problem among school-aged children in
Indonesia, affecting both quality of life and learning performance. School
health programs continue to rely heavily on external health services, limiting
their sustainability and effectiveness. In this context, teachers occupy a
strategic position as health advocates within schools. However, their capacity
to raise health issues, mobilize stakeholders, and promote the development of
school health programs remains limited. Therefore, strengthening teachers’
advocacy capacity is essential to optimize their role in supporting the
development of school-based health programs. This study aimed to identify the
advocacy capacity of primary school teachers in supporting oral health
improvement in schools.
Methods:
This qualitative study employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach
and was conducted at SDN 1 Jebugan, Klaten. Participants consisted of 11
primary school teachers and one school principal. Data were collected through
Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), in-depth interviews, and participatory
workshops involving problem identification, problem tree analysis, stakeholder
analysis, and the development of recommendations for school health programs.
Results:
Through the PAR process, teachers demonstrated a basic understanding of oral
health and were able to identify oral health problems among students as well as
their underlying causes. The findings revealed that these problems were
influenced not only by students’ behaviors but also by limitations in the
school health system and existing health programs. The reflection process
fostered an awareness that schools possess both the capacity and responsibility
to play a more active role in managing student health. This awareness was
reflected in the development of various recommendations for school-based health
programs aimed at strengthening schools’ capacity to manage student health more
independently.
Conclusion: PAR enabled teachers to move beyond merely recognizing oral health problems toward realizing the need for schools to take a more active role in managing student health. The approach facilitated the development of school-based health program initiatives and encouraged collaboration with relevant stakeholders to support more sustainable school health management.
