al-Ju?a? karya ?asan Bl?sim sekaligus menelusuri praktik kekerasan terhadap
kaum subaltern Irak.
melalui Resolusi PBB No. 661. Setelah rezim Ba‘ath tumbang, pelaku kekerasan bergeser
dari aparatur negara menjadi kelompok-kelompok sektarian. Meskipun aktornya berubah,
This study aims to
uncover the historical and literary background of the short story anthology Ma‘ra? al-Ju?a? by ?asan Bl?sim, while simultaneously tracing
the practices of violence against the Iraqi subaltern. Based on Galtung’s
theory of violence and Spivak’s concept of the subaltern, this
qualitative-descriptive research serves as a literature study that utilizes the
homology method to analyze the text. This study focuses on the emergence of Ma‘ra? al-Ju?a? and how the work represents the violence
inflicted upon groups unable to voice their own conditions.
The findings indicate
that, historically, the anthology is contextualized by the internal conflicts
of the Ba'ath regime and post-Ba'ath sectarian violence fueled by political
vendettas and religious extremism. From a writer perspective, Bl?sim positions
himself as an exile voicing the suffering of the Iraqi grassroots. These
subaltern subjects are trapped in a cycle of personal and structural violence
occurring both domestically and abroad.
Personal violence in the work manifests as killing, somatic violence, and psychological distress. During the Ba'ath era, killings were perpetrated by the regime against ideological and political opponents, while somatic and psychological violence emerged from patriarchal structures bolstered by state ideology. Structurally, the community's economy was choked by international sanctions under UN Resolution No. 661. Following the fall of the Ba'ath regime, the perpetrators shifted from state apparatuses to sectarian groups. Despite this change in actors, the subaltern remains the primary victim of massive personal violence. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that the Iraqi subaltern continues to endure marginalization and dehumanization across differing political periods
