The occurrence of stunting in children under five years old has become a problem in Indonesia. Although the rate continued to decline from 2019 to 2023, it has not yet met the target of 14% set by the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). This research focuses on three neighboring provinces — West Java, DKI Jakarta, and Banten — which have varying stunting prevalence rates relative to the national average. Tobler (1990) stated that things closer to each other have a stronger relationship than those that are farther apart, providing a spatial basis for this study. The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants that significantly influence stunting prevalence rates, the spatial pattern of these determinants and local variables, and the nature of their relationship with stunting prevalence in West Java, DKI Jakarta, and Banten in 2023.
A quantitative descriptive approach was employed. Data analysis methods included statistical regression to test influence, Moran’s I spatial pattern analysis, Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA), and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) to identify locally varying factors of stunting incidence.
The results show that Percentage of Households with Access to Adequate Sanitation, Average Monthly Per Capita Food Expenditure, Realization of Social Food Assistance Budget, and Number of Natural Disaster Incidents all significantly affect stunting incidence. All variables exhibit positive global spatial autocorrelation, with varying directions of local relationship. The GWR results indicate the presence of spatial heterogeneity and a significant local influence of the Percentage of Households with Access to Proper Sanitation on stunting occurrences in 26 significant regions.
