This study aims to determine the chemical composition, microstructure, and hardness of carbide cutting tools. As technology advances, the need for CNC machining is also growing. Therefore, CNC and its components are constantly being studied to improve production efficiency. The research variables are used cutting tools compared to unused cutting tools. This is because used cutting tools are harder than unused cutting tools. The used cutting tools are treated with varying temperatures of 400°C, 160°C, and 100°C. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) tests were also conducted to determine the chemical composition of the carbide cutting tools, as well as metallographic and Vickers hardness tests.
Hello! Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) research shows that the base metal of the carbide tool is tungsten clad with 69% N and approximately 21% N. Metallographic testing reveals a mertensite and austenite structure. The results of the research show that the average hardness of the unused tool (VHN) is 100.97 kg/mm2, and the average hardness of the used tool is 965.4 kg/mm2. For the carbide tool, the average hardness is 1446.9 kg/mm2.
This is 1374.6 kg/mm2.
