Global warming is driven by rising greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide (CO?) and methane (CH?). Forest ecosystems function both as sinks and sources of these gases. Gliricidia sepium (gamal) is a pioneer species used for land rehabilitation in KHDTK Wanagama I. This study aims to estimate CO? and CH? fluxes in the Gliricidia sepium stand at KHDTK Wanagama I during the rainy season and examine the influence of micro-environmental factors on these fluxes.

This study applied purposive sampling with three observation plots. Gas fluxes were measured using the closed chamber method with a Portable Automated Chamber System Liangber-02P in the morning (07:00–09:00), midday (11:00–13:00), and afternoon (15:00–17:00) for three days. CO? and CH? fluxes, soil temperature, and soil moisture were measured simultaneously 15 points per plot, while soil organic carbon (C-organic) and bulk density were sampled at 5 points per plot.

The results showed that the soil in Gliricidia sepium stand produced CO? emissions ranging from 912.9 to 1570.5 mg m?² h?¹, while the CH? fluxes ranged from -15.09 to 8.80 µg m?² h?¹, indicating that the soil functioned as both a sink and a source of methane. This high variation was strongly influenced by the presence of hotspots in specific plots. The CO? fluxes in the Wanagama 1 gamal during the rainy season were driven by soil temperature, C-organic, C-organic accumulation, and soil bulk density, whereas the CH? fluxes were influenced by soil moisture and soil bulk density.
