Indonesia is the country with the largest oil palm plantation area in the world. The vast plantation area makes accurate information on the number of oil palm trees a fundamental need in plantation management. The field survey method currently still in use requires a long time and high costs, making it inefficient for application on large areas of land. These limitations drive the need for automated tree counting through the utilization of technology as a more efficient solution. This final project aims to automatically count the number of oil palm trees using the Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) method, calculate the detection accuracy against field survey data, and produce a distribution map of oil palm trees at the Tenera Sumber Rejeki Farmer Group Plantation, Terangkeh Village, Pulau Laut Barat District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan Province.

This final project uses secondary data obtained from PT Eshan Agro Sentosa in the form of aerial photo data and field survey data. The aerial photo data was captured using a WingtraOne VTOL UAV on May 6, 2024 and processed using Agisoft Metashape software on May 13, 2024. Field survey data was collected from May 6 to June 6, 2024 as reference data for detection results. Both data were processed using eCognition Developer and QGIS software through two main stages, namely segmentation and classification. The segmentation stage used the Multiresolution Segmentation algorithm with a random trial approach to obtain the best parameter combination. The best parameters were determined based on the algorithm's ability to form polygons that match the shape of oil palm tree crowns, sharpen the boundaries between object classes, and minimize disproportionately small or large polygons. The experimental results show that the best parameters are Scale Parameter (200), Shape (0.3), and Compactness (0.7). The classification stage used the Nearest Neighbor method with Cluster Random Sampling on five object classes, namely oil palm, other vegetation, soil, shadow, and water.

The results of this study show that the OBIA method was able to detect 1,479 oil palm trees in a study area of 10.51 hectares, while field survey data recorded 1,521 trees. Accuracy testing using Detection Percentage (DP) and Branch Factor (BF) yielded a DP value of 93.17% and a BF value of 5.88%. Based on the success criteria for automatic oil palm tree detection, these values fall into the very good category. The detection and accuracy test results were then visualized in the form of an oil palm tree distribution map, produced using the automatic counting results of the OBIA method and field survey data to illustrate the distribution of trees across the plantation area.
