Migrant students face high academic demands alongside the challenges of adapting to a new environment, increasing their vulnerability to academic burnout. This phenomenon is influenced not only by academic pressure but also by protective factors such as social support and internal psychological mechanisms, particularly life satisfaction. Although numerous studies have examined the relationship between social support and academic burnout, the psychological mechanisms underlying this relationship—especially among migrant students in Indonesia—remain underexplored. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of social support in academic burnout through the mediating effect of life satisfaction among migrant students. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 202 migrant students aged 18–29 years from various universities in Indonesia were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected online using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Student Survey (MBI-SS). Data analysis was conducted using bootstrapped mediation analysis with 5,000 resamples through the PROCESS Macro in JASP 0.95.2.0 to obtain accurate estimates of indirect effects. The results indicated that social support had a significant positive effect on life satisfaction and life satisfaction had a significant negative effect on academic burnout. However, the direct effect of social support on academic burnout was not significant. In contrast, the indirect effect of social support on academic burnout through life satisfaction was significant, with a confidence interval that did not include zero. These findings indicate that life satisfaction serves as a mediator in the relationship between social support and academic burnout. Theoretically, these findings support the stress and coping framework, suggesting that external factors such as social support are effective when they enhance individuals’ cognitive evaluations of their overall life. Practically, the results highlight that efforts to prevent academic burnout among migrant students should not only focus on providing social support but also on enhancing life satisfaction through meaningful interactions, a sense of belonging, and support aligned with individual needs. This study has several limitations, including the use of a cross-sectional design, which precludes causal inferences, and reliance on self-report measures that may introduce subjective bias. Therefore, future research is recommended to employ alternative research designs and consider additional variables such as personality, coping strategies, and broader contextual factors."> academic burnout (? = -1,583; p < 0 data-start="2035" data-end="2053">academic burnout tidak signifikan (? = -0,017; p = 0,682). = 0,442; p < 0 data-start="1941" data-end="1959">academic burnout (? = -1,583; p < 0 data-start="2035" data-end="2053">academic burnout tidak signifikan (? = -0,017; p = 0,682).
