Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konstruksi kemandirian moral tokoh utama, Percy Jackson, dalam novel Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief karya Rick Riordan melalui proses adaptasi pemahamannya tentang moralitas ke dalam identitas kulturalnya sebagai seorang demigod. Penelitian ini berupaya menjawab kurangnya pemahaman mengenai proses pembentukan prinsip moral mandiri anak yang tergambar dalam sastra anak serta bagaimana identitas kultural berkontribusi terhadap pembentukan moralitas dalam konteks sosial. Di dalam narasi kehidupannya, Percy menghadapi konflik moral yang mendorongnya menimbang benar-salah berdasarkan pengalaman pribadi dan ekspektasi sosial-kultural sebagai seorang demigod. Proses adaptasi dengan lingkungannya menuntut Percy mempelajari moralitas melalui dinamika identitas kulturalnya, di mana perkembangan moral dan identitas kultural saling memengaruhi sehingga ia mampu membentuk pemahaman mandiri tentang benar dan salah.. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif interpretatif dengan mengintegrasikan teori perkembangan moral Lawrence Kohlberg dan konsep identitas kultural Stuart Hall untuk menjelaskan interaksi keduanya dalam pembentukan kemandirian moral. Hipotesis penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa Percy berhasil mencapai kemandirian moral karena telah memasuki tahap post- conventional dalam perkembangan moral sekaligus melalui fase becoming dalam dinamika identitas kulturalnya, yang menunjukkan kemampuannya menentukan benar dan salah secara mandiri dengan prinsip yang teguh namun kontekstual terhadap identitas kulturalnya sebagai demigod. 

This study aims to examine the construction of moral independence in the main character, Percy Jackson, in the novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief has by Rick Riordan through the process of adapting his understanding of morality into his cultural identity as a demigod. This research seeks to address the lack of understanding regarding the process of forming children’s independent moral principles as represented in children’s literature, as well as how cultural identity contributes to the formation of morality within a social context. Within the narrative of his life, Percy faces moral conflicts that encourage him to evaluate right and wrong based on personal experiences and socio-cultural expectations as a demigod. The process of adaptation to his environment requires Percy to learn morality through the dynamics of his cultural identity, in which moral development and cultural identity mutually influence one another, enabling him to form an independent understanding of right and wrong. This study employs a qualitative interpretative approach by integrating Lawrence Kohlberg’s theory of moral development and Stuart Hall’s concept of cultural identity to explain the interaction between the two in the formation of moral independence. The hypothesis of this research states that Percy succeeds in achieving moral independence because he entered the post-conventional stage of moral development while simultaneously undergoing the becoming phase within the dynamics of cultural identity, which demonstrates his ability to determine right and wrong independently based on firm principles that remain contextual to his cultural identity as a demigod.
