The Special Region of Yogyakarta has a rich culture
that is closely related to the existence of locally valuable species, one of
which is lo (Ficus racemosa) and timoho (Kleinhovia hospita L.).
Both species have ecological functions and cultural value for the community,
but their existence is increasingly limited due to land use change and
declining utilization based on community perspectives. This study aims to
determine the distribution and habitat conditions of lo and timoho, as well as
to describe the community's perspective on the cultural value of these two
species in Gunungkidul and Bantul Regencies. Data were obtained through field
inventory, measurement of plant species characteristics, determination of
coordinates, and interviews and questionnaires with the community. The analysis
of the distribution and condition of the habitat was conducted spatially using
ArcGIS through an overlay of topographic maps, soil types, and rainfall. The
community's perspective was analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The
results of the study show that 18 individuals of the lo species and 9
individuals of the timoho species were found, with a greater distribution in
Gunungkidul Regency. The lo species grows at an elevation of 20–246 meters
above sea level, while the timoho species grows at an elevation of 50–240
meters above sea level, with the main habitats being Mediterranean soil, red
andesitic latosol, and gray and gray-brown alluvial soil. The community still
recognizes the cultural value and traditional benefits of both plant species,
although this understanding is stronger among adults and the elderly. The
results of this study can be used as a basis for community-based conservation
and management planning for culturally valuable trees in the Special Region of
Yogyakarta.
