Background: Wound healing is a complex biological process involving various mechanisms, including angiogenesis, which is triggered by Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Oxygen therapies such as Nanobubble Oxyhydrogen Water (NBOW) offer potential in enhancing tissue oxygenation, which may accelerate the wound healing process. Although NBOW is known to penetrate tissues and enhance oxygenation, its effects on VEGF expression, which plays a role in angiogenesis, are not well understood.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of NBOW on VEGF expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in vitro.
Methods: This study uses a pure experimental design with a post-only control group. HUVEC were exposed to various concentrations of NBOW (0.1%, 1%, 10%) and subsequently incubated for predetermined times. VEGF expression was analyzed using the Western Blot method. The obtained data were then analyzed to evaluate the relationship between the exposure and changes in VEGF expression.
Results: The results showed that although there was an increase in VEGF expression in HUVEC treated with NBOW, the difference was not statistically significant compared to the control group.
Conclusion: The administration of NBOW to HUVEC did not produce a significant difference in VEGF expression between the treatment and control groups.
