Commands in Pirates of the Caribbean Film Series

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk perintah dan bagaimana variabel sosial memengaruhi penggunaan perintah yang dilakukan oleh karakter utama terpilih dalam seri Pirates of the Caribbean. Berbagai penelitian sebelumnya telah menganalisis tindakan bahasa dalam berbagai media. Ditemukan bahwa peran variabel sosial dalam membentuk cara perintah dibangun dalam seri ini masih kurang dieksplorasi, yang sangat penting untuk memahami komunikasi bajak laut di mana otoritas sangat ditekankan, mirip dengan komunikasi sehari-hari. Perintah-perintah tersebut dianalisis menggunakan teori pragmatik Yule (1996), teori bentuk perintah Holmes (2013), dan pengaruh variabel sosial berdasarkan teori Brown & Levinson (1987). Data penelitian ini diambil dari ucapan yang mengandung perintah yang digunakan oleh karakter utama terpilih dalam seri Pirates of the Caribbean. Hasil menunjukkan tiga bentuk perintah dalam data, yaitu imperatif, deklaratif, dan interogatif. Sementara itu, keenam kombinasi variabel sosial ditemukan dalam seri tersebut. Imperatif adalah yang paling sering digunakan dengan 229 (89,80%) kejadian. Karakter Utama terpilih dalam Pirates of the Caribbean paling sering melakukan perintah dalam kombinasi E [-D, +P] dengan total 218 kejadian.

This study aims to examine the forms of commands and how social variables influence the use of commands performed by the selected major characters in Pirates of the Caribbean series. Numerous previous studies have analyzed speech acts in various media. It is found that the role of social variables in shaping how commands are constructed in this series remains underexplored, which is crucial to understanding pirate communication where authority is highly emphasized resembling every day communication. The commands are analyzed using Yule's (1996) pragmatics theory, Holmes (2013) theory of forms of commands and according to the influence of social variables using the theory by Brown & Levinson (1987). Utterances used by the selected major characters in Pirates of the Caribbean series that contained commands were taken as the data of this study. The results show three forms of commands in the data, which are imperatives, declaratives, and interrogatives. Meanwhile, all six combinations of social variables are found in the series. Imperatives are the most frequently used with 229 (89.80%) occurrences. The major characters in Pirates of the Caribbean most frequently performed commands in combination E [-D, +P] with a total of 218 occurrences.
