The popularity of dating applications in Indonesia continues to rise, requiring users to make rapid decisions involving both cognitive and emotional interactions. This study aims to investigate the influence of Intrinsic Cognitive Load (ICL) and Extraneous Cognitive Load (ECL) on visual attention and user arousal during the decision-making process in dating apps. Utilizing a within-subject experimental design, 24 female active users (aged 18-29) were exposed to four prototype conditions in which information complexity and interface design were manipulated. Visual attention was measured through fixation duration and fixation count metrics using an eye tracker, while arousal levels were measured via the tonic component of Galvanic Skin Response (GSR). Friedman test results revealed that ICL and ECL significantly influence visual attention across all Areas of Interest (AOI), specifically photos, bios, and fixed-choice responses. Profile photos consistently remained the most dominant element due to high saliency. Furthermore, a visual avoidance phenomenon was observed when users encountered complex interface designs. However, the manipulation of cognitive load did not significantly affect participants' arousal levels. These findings indicate that early-stage profile evaluation tends to be cognitive-evaluative and transactional, thus not triggering strong enough affective engagement to provoke autonomic nervous system responses.
