Background: The Blood Transfusion Unit (UTD) at Persahabatan Hospital began providing blood donation services in July 2023. To ensure an adequate blood supply within the hospital, a strategy was implemented: creating a notification feature on the “Prima SIMRS” application to increase blood donation participation among civil servants at Persahabatan Hospital. The implementation of the blood donation notification system began in March 2024.
Objective: To analyze the implementation of the blood donation notification feature for civil servants at Persahabatan Hospital, identify the challenges encountered, and assess its impact on blood availability.
Method: This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews accompanied with questionnaires to relevant parties, observations, and document reviews, followed by thematic analysis.
Research Findings: This study analyzes the implementation of a continuous blood donor notification feature in the "Prima SIMRS" application using the HOT-Fit approach. The feature successfully increased donor knowledge and motivation, while also providing efficiency in scheduling and registration. UTDRS performance data indicates a significant increase in self-sufficient blood production in 2025, which correlates with a decrease in reliance on PMI's blood dropping and an improvement in operational cost-effectiveness. However, the feature's effectiveness is still hampered by technical constraints, such as application downtime and limited access. Its reach is confined to employees with computer access, thus neglecting potential donors from outside the hospital. The hope for further development, such as notification expansion via WhatsApp or SMS, was expressed to maximize the feature's potential in ensuring a sustainable blood supply.
Conclusion and Recommendations: The implementation of the continuous blood donor notification feature at RS Persahabatan has shown a significant positive impact. The feature proved effective in increasing donor consistency, providing scheduling convenience and registration time efficiency, and ultimately improving UTDRS performance. However, its effectiveness is still hindered by technical constraints and limited access, which raises expectations for expanding notifications to other platforms like WhatsApp or SMS. Furthermore, this feature still has considerable room for further development to reach its full potential.
