Pengiriman pesan singkat pada GSM menggunakan teknologi EMS

Pengiriman pesan menggunakan media SMS (Short Message Service) telah terbukti meraih popularitas di segala penjuru dunia. Hal ini dicapai karena keunggulannya dibandingkan dengan media lainnya yaitu : murah, cepat, jangkauan luas, dll. Salah satu kekurangan yang dirasa pada SMS ini adalah bahwa pesan yang disampaikan hanya berformat teks saja. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini mengembangkan teknologi SMS tersebut melalui EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service), yaitu penyampaian pesan berupa masing-masing atau campuran antara pesa bertipe teks, melodi/ringtone dan image. Pada penelitian ini, PC (Personal Computer) sebagai perangkat keras digunakan dalam pengiriman SMS karena apabila dibandingkan dengan ponsel sebagai device klasik selama ini, PC memiliki beberapa keunggulan yaitu : manipulasi pesan, penjadwalan, penyimpanan data yang besar, dll. Sedangkan untuk perangkat lunaknya digunakan adalah Microsoft .NET yang pada saat penelitian ini dibuat merupakan teknologi terbaru untuk pengembangan aplikasi – aplikasi perangkat lunak dari Microsoft.

Messaging sending by SMS (Short Message Service) has been getting its popularity all over the world. This is because it’s powerful characteristic: cheap, fast, and global reach. On the other side, this technology has an essential lack that the sending message is text-format only. This project develops the next generation technology called EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service). By EMS a rich content such as the combination of text, melody, and image format, can be sent. At this project, PC (Personal Computer) as hardware is used for message sending and not the phone-cell as the classic SMS sending device, because the PC has several advantage technology such as : message manipulation, scheduling, and larger data storing. To complete all of this, the Microsoft .NET is used for software developing to reach over all performance.
