The A1 aseptic filling machine is a crucial component in the sterile product filling process. One of its main components is the product valve, which is considered critical because it is in direct contact with the product. A single A1 aseptic filling machine contains three types of valves: the Cleaning-In-Pipe valve (valve-A), the product valve (valve-B), and the steam valve (valve-C). Maintenance on these valves requires a high level of safety and efficiency, necessitating tools that can support technicians in this process.
This research aims to design tools for technicians to use during valve maintenance to improve safety (equipment safety) and efficiency of the maintenance process. The design was performed using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, followed by analysis using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software for static simulation. This analysis aims to determine the most suitable material for the auxiliary device structure among the three tested materials: AISI 4340, AISI 1020, and ASTM A36.
The results of the study indicate that AISI 1020 material is the most suitable material for use in valve maintenance tools. Based on the analysis results, the maximum von Mises stress value produced is 274.1 MPa, the maximum displacement is 3,515 mm, and the safety factor is 1.31. The structure of the tool with AISI 1020 material is proven to be able to withstand a force of 3200 N and a torque of 70 N. This selection is also supported by literature references related to material characteristics. Thus, the designed tool is able to improve safety and efficiency in the valve maintenance process on the aseptic filling machine A1.
