Analisis Arketipe Tokoh Utama Yeong - Hye Dalam Novel The Vegetarian Karya Han Kang :Kajian Psikologi Sastra Carl Gustav Jung

Penelitian ini mengkaji novel The Vegetarian karya Han Kang dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra, yaitu menerapkan teori arketipe Carl Gustav Jung (1977). Novel ini dipilih karena kompleksitas tokoh utamanya, Yeong- hye, yang mengalami transformasi psikologis dramatis setelah mengalami serangkaian mimpi buruk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis manifestasi dari dua arketipe dasar, yaitu Persona (topeng sosial) dan Shadow (sisi gelap) untuk memahami penyebab dan proses kehancuran psikis yang dialami oleh Yeong-hye. Secara metodologis, penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif-analitis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Persona Yeong-hye termanifestasi dalam berbagai citra yang dilihat secara berbeda-beda menurut perspektif karakter lainnya, seperti wanita yang biasa-biasa saja, pendiam, autentik, dan anak pasif. Tekanan selama mengenakan Persona yang represif ini pada akhirnya memicu ledakan arketipe Shadow. Shadow Yeong-hye muncul sebagai kebalikan total dari Persona-nya, termanifestasi dalam sifat-sifat yang dianggap negatif oleh masyarakat, seperti keras kepala, egois, bermuka tebal, acuh tak acuh, dan misterius. Kesimpulannya, perjalanan psikologis Yeong-hye adalah konsekuensi dari konflik antara tuntutan eksternal (Persona) dan dorongan internal (Shadow). Konflik ini berujung pada disintegrasi jiwa, di mana Yeong-hye menolak kemanusiaannya sendiri dan ingin menjadi tumbuhan sebagai bentuk pemberontakan terakhirnya.

This research examines Han Kang’s novel, The Vegetarian, through the lens of literary psychology, applying Carl Gustav Jung’s theory of archetype (1977). The novel was selected for the complexity of its protagonist, Yeong-hye, who undergoes a dramatic psychological transformation after experiencing a series of nightmares. This study aims to analyze the manifestations of two fundamental archetypes, the Persona (social mask) and the Shadow (the dark side), to understand the causes and processes of Yeong-hye’s psychic disintegration. Methodologically, this is a qualitative study employing a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings reveal that Yeong-hye’s Persona manifests in various images perceived differently by other characters, such as an ordinary woman, a quiet wife, an authentic individual, and a passive child. The immense pressure of maintaining these repressive Personas ultimately triggers the eruption of the archetype of the Shadow. Yeong-hye’s Shadow emerges as the total opposite of her Persona, manifesting in traits deemed negative by society, such as stubbornness, selfishness, shamelessness, indifference, and mysteriousness. In conclusion, Yeong-hye’s psychological journey is a direct consequence of the conflict between external demands (Persona) and internal impulses (Shadow). This conflict culminates in the disintegration of her psyche, leading her to reject her own humanity and desire to become a plant as her final act of rebellion.
