The Implementation of Game Design in Recall Tests To Improve Memory Retention Among University Students

Sejak lockdown pandemi COVID-19, terdapat permintaan yang tinggi akan cara-cara inovatif untuk menyajikan konten pendidikan secara efektif dan menarik. Digitalisasi dan perubahan lingkungan belajar secara mendadak telah menyebabkan kesulitan bagi siswa untuk fokus pada materi. Akibatnya semakin tingginya kasus pelanggaran akademik di beberapa universitas. Penerapan game design dalam pembelajaran dan tes dapat digunakan untuk melibatkan siswa dalam materi pendidikan dan menjaga fokus mereka lebih lama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat tiga tes cued recall yang berbeda menggunakan game engine: satu tanpa elemen audiovisual game design, satu dengan visual game design tanpa penambahan suara, dan satu dengan visual game design dan suara Pada akhirnya, tidak ada hasil statistik yang signifikan; namun, penelitian ini memberikan beberapa wawasan tentang pilihan desain saat membuat tes berbasis mengingat, seperti pilihan font, distraksi audio dan visual, dan harapan bagi penelitian lanjut untuk terus berinovasi cara meningkatkan motivasi dan kepuasan belajar.
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, there has been a high demand for innovative ways to present educational content effectively and engagingly. Rapid digitalization and the shift in the learning environment have caused difficulty for learners to focus on the materials and a higher degree of academic misconduct as a result. The implementation of game design in learning and tests can be used to engage students in educational material and keep their focus for a longer time by integrating attractive visuals into the test and music. This study aims to create three different cued recall tests using a game engine: one without audiovisual game design elements, one with visual game design without the addition of sound, and one with visual game design and audio included. In the end, no statistically significant result was able to be drawn; however, the research provides several insights on design choice when creating recall-based tests, such as font choice, auditory and visual distractions, and the hope for future research to continue innovating to improve learning motivation and satisfaction.
