Global astropolitical developments have shifted the traditional paradigm of air defense to a more complex realm, namely the integration of airspace and space. In the context of Indonesia, this dynamic has a direct impact on the effectiveness and relevance of the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which until now has been limited to certain areas. This study aims to analyze the impact of astropolitical developments on the structure, policies, and strategic readiness of Indonesia's ADIZ. The method used is a descriptive-qualitative approach with defense policy analysis, international law review, national air security and defense review and policy.
The results of the study show that Indonesia's ADIZ has not undergone a comprehensive update along with the increasing complexity of threats, foreign military satellites, and regional dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region. Indonesia's dependence on foreign orbit data and the lack of integration between air and space surveillance systems weaken the capacity for early detection and deterrence. In these conditions, the reformulation of Indonesia's ADIZ integrated with national space policy is an urgent strategic need. This study recommends the establishment of an Air–Space Defense doctrine, expansion of the scope of the ADIZ, and the establishment of a National Space Command under the leadership of the Indonesian Air Force as a response to global astropolitical challenges.
