Peran Keberfungsian Keluarga terhadap Beban Pengasuh yang dimediasi oleh Sense of Coherence pada Generasi Sandwich

Generasi sandwich berisiko tinggi mengalami beban pengasuh. Tuntutan pengasuhan ganda terhadap anak sekaligus orang tua yang lansia menyebabkan generasi sandwich merasakan tekanan fisik, psikis, sosial, peran, dan finansial. Beban pengasuh dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif dalam jangka panjang jika generasi sandwich berada dalam lingkungan keluarga disfungsional. Mekanisme psikologis terkait peranan keberfungsian keluarga terhadap beban pengasuh masih perlu diteliti lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji peran keberfungsian keluarga terhadap beban pengasuh dengan dimediasi oleh sense of coherence pada generasi sandwich. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan survei cross-sectional. Partisipan penelitian ini sebanyak 240 orang dengan karakteristik laki-laki atau perempuan berusia 30 hingga 59 tahun dengan status menikah, memenuhi kebutuhan anak dan orang tua/mertua yang lansia, serta tinggal serumah dengan orang tua/mertua yang lansia dan anak. Analisis data menggunakan analisis mediasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian peran keberfungsian keluarga terhadap beban pengasuh dapat dijelaskan melalui sense of coherence pada generasi sandwich. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa sense of coherence berkontribusi terhadap rendahnya beban pengasuh. Sense of coherence dapat terbentuk dari lingkungan keluarga yang fungsional. Penting untuk menciptakan lingkungan keluarga yang berfungsi sehat agar generasi sandwich terlindungi dari dampak negatif pengasuhan ganda.

The sandwich generation is at high risk of experiencing caregiver burden. The dual caregiving demands of children and elderly parents cause the sandwich generation to feel physical, psychological, social, role, and financial pressures. Caregiver burden can have long-term negative impacts if the sandwich generation is in a dysfunctional family environment. The psychological mechanism related to the role of family functioning on caregiver burden still needs further research. This study aims to examine the role of family functioning on caregiver burden mediated by a sense of coherence in the sandwich generation. The research method used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey. The participants in this study were 240 people with characteristics of men or women aged 30 to 59 years with married status, meeting the needs of children and elderly parents/in-laws, and living in the same house with elderly parents/in-laws and children. Data analysis used mediation analysis. The results of this study indicate that part of the role of family functioning on caregiver burden can be explained through the sense of coherence in the sandwich generation. This study found that a sense of coherence contributes to low caregiver burden. Sense of coherence can be formed from a functional family environment. It is important to create a healthy functioning family environment so that the sandwich generation is protected from the negative impacts of dual caregiving.
