Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh utang budaya melalui pendidikan terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat Desa Tebara dan mengetahui pengaruh utang budaya melalui pekerjaan terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat Desa Tebara. Penelitian ini akan menjawab (1) apakah utang budaya melalui pendidikan memiliki pengaruh terhadap kesejahteraan dan (2) apakah utang Budaya melalui pekerjaan memiliki pengaruh terhadap kesejahteraan. Teori yang digunakan yaitu Rasionalitas Thorstein Veblen dan pendekatan Neoclassical Welfare Theory Albert & Hahnel. Metode dalam penelitian yang dipakai merupakan kuantitatif dengan data primer melalui penyebaran kuesioner yang melibatkan 106 sampel dan kemudian data disajikan berbentuk Cross Section diolah menggunakan Smart PLS dengan metode partial least square - structural equation modeling. Berdasarkan pengolahan data melalui hasil uji Bootstrapping, efek tidak langsung pengaruh utang budaya terhadap kesejahteraan melalui pendidikan memiliki hasil signifikan negatif. Pengaruh utang budaya terhadap kesejahteraan melalui pekerjaan memiliki hasil signifikan positif. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan masyarakat Desa Tebara lebih memprioritaskan bekerja dibandingkan pendidikan dengan tujuan untuk memenuhi tuntutan adat dan budaya sebagai orang Sumba.

This study aims to determine the effect of cultural debt through education on the welfare of the Tebara Village community and to determine the effect of cultural debt through work on the welfare of the Tebara Village community. This study will answer (1) whether cultural debt through education has an effect on welfare and (2) whether cultural debt through work has an effect on welfare. The theory used is Thorstein Veblen's Rationality and Albert & Hahnel's Neoclassical Welfare Theory approach. The method in the study used is quantitative with primary data through the distribution of questionnaires involving 106 samples and then the data is presented in the form of a Cross Section processed using Smart PLS with the partial least square method - structural equation modeling. Based on data processing through the results of the Bootstrapping test, the indirect effect of the influence of cultural debt on welfare through education has a significant negative result. The effect of cultural debt on welfare through work has a significant positive result. Thus it can be concluded that the Tebara Village community prioritizes work over education in order to meet the demands of customs and culture as Sumbanese people.
