Academic experience in the final year of university often generates high emotional pressure, particularly related to the completion of a final project or thesis, which can lead to academic anxiety. A sense of humor is known to reduce stress and anxiety, while resilience helps individuals recover from pressure. This study aims to examine the role of sense of humor on academic anxiety, with resilience as a mediator, among final-year students. The participants consisted of 161 final-year students working on their final projects (female = 112; male = 49). The instruments used included the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS), the Resilience Scale, and the Academic Anxiety Scale. The results indicate that a sense of humor has a direct and significant effect on academic anxiety but is not mediated by resilience. Regression analysis showed that sense of humor and resilience together play a significant role in academic anxiety, contributing 41.6% (R² = 0.416). These findings suggest that a sense of humor does not always function as a protective factor but can instead serve as a self-defense mechanism in facing academic pressure. Future researchers are advised to explore specific types of humor in more detail.
