Spodoptera exigua is a major pest of shallot crops. This pest has hosts more than 90 plant species. Weeds or wild plants have the potential as alternative host for S. exigua when no main crop is cultivated. Studies suggest that the Boraginaceae family can be an alternative host. This study used Heliotropium indicum plants from the Boraginaceae family for feeding test and oviposition preference. The feeding test was conducted by weighing the feed to determine the weight of feed consumed by the larvae. Oviposition preference test was conducted using the choice test method. The results showed that the life cycle of S. exigua from egg hatching to imago lasted 24.35 days in the shallot treatment. The weed treatment only passed from instar 1-5 which lasted for 10.85 days. Total feed consumption in the shallot and weed treatments was 0.47 g and 0.03 g. The success of larvae into pupae in shallot 85% and weed 0%. The success of pupa to imago in shallot 80% and weed 0%. Oviposition preference of imago chose shallot 62.5% and weed 37.5%.
